Plaque detected
Plaque in the carotid is a direct, visible marker of arterial disease. If you have plaque, you have atherosclerosis which is a silent, progressive disease that causes no symptoms, gives no advance notice, until you have a heart attack or stroke. The only way to know is to look and ultrasound is a painless way to do that.

- You have a family history of heart disease, stroke, or sudden cardiac death.
- You have known risk factors — high cholesterol, hypertension, prediabetes, diabetes, or smoking history.
- You want to know if plaque is present now - before a first event tells you.

- You're currently having symptoms — chest pain, shortness of breath, neurological changes. That needs urgent care, not screening.
